As a kid… I would often awake in the mornings
and head downstairs to read what had been scribed upon the household chalkboard
to see what my tasks/challenges for the day would be. Sometimes upon rounding the corner to the
board that is still posted next to the utility pantry of my childhood home, I
would see additional writing upon that board.
Often this seemingly extraneous scrawling would be a word or phrase
scribed there by my Dad.
I can recall several memorable events
surrounding this seemingly random posting on the board. One of note is one that my Dad can surely still
recall is his posting of the word Pusillanimous. And Yeah I spelled that correctly the first
time. So I trudged over to the
breakfront constructed of a very dark hardwood and leaded glass viewing panes
that takes up the western-ish wall of the kitchen dining area and fished out a
couple of different versions of publications that would assist me in
deciphering the posted text.
Upon flipping through a few pages of the
various available material, I loudly proclaimed, so as the whole household
would hear me…
“It Fits! It Fits!”
What did that “lesson” in the English language
become to me?
Did I try and apply my thoughts about
something/one to this newly learned word?
Did I take this knowledge for the example it
provided?
Why was the learning of this word so
memorable?
Was it the raw applied definition of the
memory or the knowledge and experience gained from achieving that memory?
