Random for Today...

1787 – In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, delegates convene a Constitutional Convention to write a new Constitution for the United States; George Washington presides.

Every once in awhile... I like to look at the events and news of the day... historical events, birth dates and deaths and even the holidays and religious observance. Just to see what catches my eye.  Then I see if their are any perceived correlations...my own perception of course.  These perceptions being based upon my media interests so I can come up with a random ranting about whatever happens to come to mind.  So, process aside, let's see what today's results are.

1948 – Israel is declared to be an independent state and a provisional government is established. Immediately after the declaration, Israel is attacked by the neighboring Arab states, triggering the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.  Independent from who? Response to any answer... They get how much from where and how many Palestinians are in poverty camps and how much oil do they have? Anyways, moving right along.

1973 – Skylab, the United States' first space station, is launched.  This is the date that human colonization of Space began.  They haven't gotten much beyond that in 40 Years either.  NASA should be one of those agencies to get slashed... Cut out the middleman and let those high dollar space fans have at it. Anglo-American can go up there are dig for Copper and Gold on Mars. Shell can go pump gas from Venus and then we'd be all set.  By the way... it's also George Lucas' Birthday!

"I think we will look back in 10 years’ time and say we should not have done this, but we did because we forgot the lessons of the past, and that that which is true in the 1930s is true in 2010". Dorgan was one of only 8 senators who voted "No" on the deregulation bill (the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act) in 1999.  Happy Birthday  – Byron Dorgan, American Politician born 1942 in North Dakota.  Which reminds me, reading through the news and market sites this morning was like looking through weather predictions. But the overall trend is that the economy is gonna continue in this downward slide and it may accelerate soon.

Today's deaths...

Doe's this mean that Mitt Romney has the day off?  1945 – Heber J. Grant, seventh president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

And of course 1998 – Frank Sinatra. . .
